Late Heartbreak For Young O's
Swindon Town 4 - 3 Leyton Orient
Puma Youth Alliance Cup Group 2
ORIENT'S Puma Youth Alliance Cup Campaign came to an end in heartbreaking circumstances on Saturday when a last-gasp Swindon Town goal knocked them out in the group stage.
Needing a draw to secure their place in the second round, Kevin Nugent's side looked on course when they battled back from 3-0 down to level.
But the hosts struck with the final kick of the game to leave Orient's cup hopes in tatters.
Youth team manager Kevin Nugent said: "It's been the same story over the last few weeks.
"We've been letting in late goals and they've meant that we've had nothing to show for decent performances.
"The players have got to learn very quickly that if you don't take your chances and concede sloppy goals, it's a recipe for getting beaten."
Orient got off to a terrible start, falling 3-0 behind after just 20 minutes of play.
However, they soon woke from their slumber and began to put Swindon under pressure, with Adam Marsh quickly reducing the arrears.
Tom Kemp made it 3-2 with a penalty before half-time and the visitors looked to be back on track.
Marsh completed the comeback with his second goal of the game after the break, but Orient, who had dominated after going 3-0 down, were caught by a sucker punch at the death, meaning their seven points from as many games was not enough for progression.
Orient: Lemar Joseph-Johnson (Michael Doyle 46); Brandon Martin, Frankie Webb, Tom Kemp, Matthew Hall; Harry Baker, Solomon Shields, Jack Page, Loick Pires; Henry Atu, Adam Marsh (Adam Bolle 80)
Kevin Nugent's youth team will look to get back on track in Friday's FA Youth Cup sponsored by E.ON first round clash at Luton Town.
Kick off at Kenilworth Road is at 7pm, with admission costing £3 adults and free for children.
