Leyton Orient 1 - 1 Colchester United
Puma Youth Alliance Cup Group Two
Saturday October 13 2007

SOLOMON SHIELDS scored his first goal of the season, but the O's had to settle for a point from their latest Youth Alliance Cup match after they were pegged back by a Colchester set-play.

The O's looked set for their third win of the round-robin group stages when midfielder Shields fired them into a first half lead, but they still have an excellent chance of making it through to the next round.

Youth team manager Kevin Nugent said: "I was a little disappointed not to win, because we let a lead slip and conceded from a set piece again.

"We need to improve on that front, because although we didn't do a lot to win the game, we still got ourselves into that position and should have seen it through."

In truth, the Ive Farm meeting was a quiet affair played at a slow pace, but Orient found themselves in pole position when Shields showed excellent anticipation to reach Loick Pires' knock down and slot home.

But Orient couldn't keep hold of their lead and had to settle for a single point when Colchester levelled from a dead ball.

Orient: Daniel Bygrave; Brandon Martin, Frankie Webb, Tom Kemp, Matthew Hall; Solomon Shields, Scott Grange, Jack Page, Loick Pires (Harry Baker 60); Henry Atu (Bradley Gray 70), Adam Marsh (Adam Bolle 75)
