Martin Ling moved quickly to fill the void left by Glyn Garner's summer 2007 departure by capturing Stuart Nelson on a two-year contract.

Nelson had been released by Brentford following the expiration of his contract at Griffin Park, but O's boss Ling had been tracking his progress for some time and the 6'1'' stopper was delighted to be given the opportunity of resuming his career at League One level.

Injury restricted him to 19 League appearances as Brentford suffered relegation to League Two in the 2006/07 season, but the previous two campaigns were far more prosperous for the ex-Doncaster man, who was a virtual ever-present at Martin Allen's men made it to the play-offs two years in a row.

The 25-year-old began his career with Cirencester Town before being brought into the pro ranks by Millwall.

He left the Den without making a first team appearance and played in the United States before returning to England with Oxford City.

Doncaster Rovers snapped him up in 2002, and following a short spell with Hucknall Town, he made his breakthrough with a move to Brentford in 2004.

Nelson made 139 appearances for the west Londoners and will now be hoping to continue his progress at Brisbane Road.
