Wayne impressed sufficiently whilst on loan with the O's for the last six weeks of the 2005/06 season to earn a permanent move from Scunthorpe United.

Equally adept on either wing, the 31-year-old midfielder scored twice during his loan spell and settled straight into the side as Martin Ling's men won promotion from League Two.

He continued to chip in with goals from the wing as Orient survived their first season back in League One and his trickery from the left flank has confused defenders across the country.

Wayne only started 13 games in as many months at Scunthorpe, but it was at Mansfield where the Leek-born player made his name.

He gained promotion with the Stags in 2001 and repeated the feat with Scunthorpe four years later - so his 2006/07 elevation to League One was the third time Wayne has tasted success in League Two.

Wayne started his career at Port Vale before moving to Mansfield and, following his spells at Scunthorpe and Chester, he has now racked up over 300 career appearances and scored more than 40 goals.
