THE national media were out in force to report on Orient's friendly against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night, and plenty of column inches were devoted to the game in this morning's papers.

One thing all the newspapers agreed on was the impressive nature of the visitors' three-pronged attack, with Dean Jones of The Daily Star saying that half-time sub Jermain Defoe has done his chances of earning a starting role no harm with his performance.

"Defoe's introduction..sparked Jol's men into life", said Jones, and the former West Ham man was on the scoresheet as Spurs blew Orient away with three goals in nine second half minutes.

In The Guardian, John Ashdown speculated that Jol would be less willing to risk a three-man attack in the Premiership and despite Defoe's impressive display, he is "likely to find himself on the bench more often that not this season."

Ashdown also commented that England international pair Michael Dawson and Paul Robinson were "partly culpable" for allowing Adam Boyd to head Orient into an early lead, while both newspapers were complimentary of Orient's industry.

Spurs were made to work hard before they pulled clear of the O's, and The London Evening Standard reported that it wasn't until "Fred Murray brought down [Younes] Kaboul in the box" that the visitors were able to turn their possession into goals.
