Pre-Season Friendlies: The Lowdown
ORIENT will contest six pre-season friendlies as they count down to the start of the 2007/08 season, and with opposition ranging from SD Portmany of Spain to the Premier League's Tottenham Hotspur, Martin Ling's will certainly face a test of their skills.
The action kicks off on July 17 in Ibiza and leytonorient.com is on hand to give you the lowdown on all the teams we will be facing.
SD Portmany v Leyton Orient
Tuesday July 17, kick-off TBA
Orient will begin their summer programme with a friendly against local Ibizan side SD Portmany during their tour of the Balearic island.
Portmany, who compete in the Preferente Grupo Eivissa-Formentera, enjoyed a highly successful 2006/07 season, finishing top of their division, which sits at level six in the Spanish pyramid.
They play at the Camp Municipal de Fútbol de Sant Antoni de Portmany, which holds 1,500 spectators and is home to one of the latest third-generation artificial pitches.
Holiday packages to see the O's on tour are still available and more information on this fantastic opportunity can be found by clicking here.
CF San Rafael v Leyton Orient
Thursday July 19, kick-off TBA
Two days later, Orient take on another local team in Ibiza, with CF San Rafael providing the opposition for this friendly.
San Rafael compete in the same division as Portmany and they also gave a good account of themselves in 2006/07, finishing in second place.
Home for them is the Camp Municipal d'Esports Sant Rafel, which also has a latest generation artificial pitch.
Leyton Orient v West Ham United
Martin Ling Testimonial
Tuesday July 24, kick-off 7.45pm
Orient could not wish for a better match upon their return to England, with West Ham United coming to E10 to take part in Martin Ling's testimonial match.
It will be Orient's first pre-season match at Brisbane Road for four years and a big crowd is expected.
The Hammers, managed by Alan Curbishley, had a turbulent 2006/07 season, but it ended successfully with Carlos Tevez's goal securing the win they needed at Manchester United to secure their Premership status,
That looked a far-fetched possibility with three months of the season left to go, but the Upton Park club remarkably won seven of their final nine games to drag themselves clear of the drop zone.
The row over the controversial signings of Argentine stars Tevez and Javier Mascherano still rumbles on, but few could argue with their tremendous end-of-season form.

Weymouth v Leyton Orient
Saturday July 28, kick-off 3pm
Martin Ling's men then travel to Blue Square Premier side Weymouth as they continue their warm-up to the 2007/08 campaign.
The O's have twice taken on the Terras in FA Cup action, but July's meeting will be the first between the clubs for almost 40 years.
Weymouth, who took Nottingham Forest to a cup replay two years ago, play at the Wessex Stadium, which has the capacity to host 6,600 spectators.
Last year was their first back at Conference National level for a number of years and they enjoyed a terrific start and looked set for a play-off push.
But in January it was announced that in order to guarantee the long-term financial future of the club, the entire first team had been transfer listed, and the management team of Garry Hill and Kevin Hales had left the club by mutual consent.
Jason Tindall replaced former Dagenham boss Hill in the hotseat, while a number of players left the club, including ex-O's defender Simon Downer.
They finished in 11th place and will be looking to push on next term.
Leyton Orient v Tottenham Hotspur
Wednesday August 1, kick-off 7.45pm
Orient's second prestige friendly of the summer sees Tottenham Hotspur visit Brisbane Road on August 1.
Martin Jol's men reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup last term and qualified for the same competition this year by finishing fifth in the Premier League.
In Dimitar Berbatov they made one of the transfers of the season last summer, and they will enter the 2007/08 campaign with very realistic aspirations of breaking into the top four and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
Jol's squad includes the likes of England internationals Paul Robinson and Jermain Defoe, as well as Republic of Ireland man Robbie Keane, and their trip to E10 will be eagerly anticipated by O's fans.
Ticket information for this game can be found here.
Grays Athletic v Leyton Orient
Saturday August 4, kick-off 3pm
Orient take their annual trip to Grays Athletic on Saturday August 4, with the Blue Square Premier outfit providing Orient's final friendly opposition.
Grays struggled against relegation to the Conference South last term, but eventually kept their heads above water by finishing in 19th and will be preparing for another Conference campaign.
They are now managed by ex-Tottenham player Justin Edinburgh and Simon Downer, a former Orient defender, is in the Blues' squad.
Grays play at the 4,500-capacity New Recreation Ground and Orient will be hoping for a similar outcome to their last visit to south-west Essex - they won 3-2 there last summer.
Leyton Orient XI matches
A Leyton Orient XI will also contest a friendly match at Blue Square South side Bishop's Stortford on Thursday August 2.
