Late Corden Goal Earns Reserves A Point
Leyton Orient 1 - 1 Aldershot Town
Pontin's Holidays Combination Central Division
WAYNE CORDEN scored with four minutes to go to rescue a point for Orient's reserves against Aldershot Town on Tuesday afternoon.
It looked as if Orient were heading for a defeat after a poor first half in which Junior Mendes gave the visitors the lead.
But the O's improved after the break and earned their reward when Corden lashed home following good work from Efe Echanomi down the right hand flank.
Orient took their time to get going and Aldershot created plenty of chances for their lively front pairing of Mendes and Shawn Deveney.
Mendes should have put Aldershot in front on 28, but he lifted his effort over the bar when only faced with Stuart Nelson in the O's goal.
But he made up for that miss four minutes later, tucking home after Louie Soares burst into the box and drew a stop from Nelson.
There was little to report from an Orient attacking perspective during the first half, and Aldershot would have felt aggrieved that they didn't build on their advantage.
However, Orient emerged as a different team in the second half, and their threat grew as the half went on.
First year scholar Harry Baker came on and delivered a number of quality balls into the box from the right hand flank, while JJ Melligan became more effective once he moved inside to the middle of the park.
Echanomi was guilty of wasting several good opportunities to equalise, but that was forgotten about when, four minutes from time, he breezed past his man in the right hand channel.
Goalkeeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz managed to flick the ball away from the O's striker, but it fell nicely for Corden to tee himself up and smash home.
Orient: Stuart Nelson; Brandon Martin, Frankie Webb (Chris Robson 70), Clayton Fortune, Charlie Daniels; JJ Melligan, Scott Grange (Harry Baker 58), Jack Page, Wayne Corden; Raphael Sylvester (Efe Echanomi 57), Andy Barcham
