MARTIN LING has swooped to sign former Luton Town striker Adam Boyd after he was released from his contract by mutual consent on Monday evening.

Boyd joins fellow forward Wayne Gray is agreeing to sign for the O's in the past week and the ex-Hartlepool man has put pen-to-paper on a two-year contract.

25-year-old Boyd cost the Hatters a £500,000 fee when he joined from the Pools last summer, but the Hartlepool-born striker failed to find his best form at Kenilworth Road.

He does, however, possess a fantastic track record at League One level, scoring 60 goals in 169 appearances for his hometown club, and Ling is sure that O's fans will see Boyd back to his best.

He said: "I feel that Adam will be a great signing for this football club.

"He has a wonderful record in this division, and although he didn't have the best of times last season, that doesn't mean that there's not a quality player in there.

"There has been a change of regime at Luton and they felt it was best he moved on, and I'm delighted that he's decided to join us.

"That completes the striking department and it's an area of the squad I'm very happy with."

O's chief executive Matthew Porter added: "We would like to thank Luton Town Football Club for their co-operation and assistance in ensuring this deal went ahead.

"Adam is very much looking forward to becoming a Leyton Orient player and I know he was impressed not only by how Martin Ling convinced him of our footballing prospects but also by the facilities we have to offer"

Boyd began his career with hometown club Hartlepool United, where he made 144 league appearances (55 as a substitute) and scored 53 goals.

He shot to prominence with 29 goals in the 2004/05 season and left for Championship football at Luton a year later.

However, Boyd found starting opportunities at a premium at Kenilworth Road and he will be looking for a change of luck in E10.
