Huddersfield Town 0 - 1 Leyton Orient
Coca-Cola League One
ADAM BOYD'S eighth goal of the season was enough for Orient to see off Huddersfield Town and jump back to the League One summit on Saturday afternoon.
The O's striker hooked a super volley home with just three minutes on the clock to give the visitors a lead they never looked like relinquishing.
Martin Ling's men have thrown away leads in their last three games, but they were resolute in defence on this occasion and fully deserved their first ever win at Huddersfield for a classic awayday performance.
A wonderful piece of opportunism from O's top scorer Boyd in the third minute gave the visitors the perfect start. There seemed little danger when a high ball dropped in the midfield area, but a prodigious leap by Adam Chambers flicked the ball towards Boyd, who watched the ball drop over his shoulder bvefore leaving Matt Glennon stranded with his volley.
Three minutes later Town's right winger Malvin Kamara ran menacingly at Charlie Daniels, finding space to thread a fine ball through to Luke Beckett, who looked set to equalise until Glenn Morris - on his first league appearance of the season - saved with his feet.
Huddersfield were attacking with great pace, and, with 13 minutes on the clock, Danny Cadamateri sprinted clear of Alton Thelwell in the left channel to stand up a cross for Beckett to head goalwards from close range. Morris was well positioned, though, to save.
Orient weathered the mini-storm and almost grabbed a second on 24 after Wayne Gray peeled over to the left flank and fed Jason Demetriou in to cross. Paul Terry flicked the ball on and eventually volleyed towards goal after Joe Skarz's poor header dropped to him 20 yards out, but Glennon got down to save.
Adam Chambers then drove wide from range after Gray laid off to him as Orient looked to take a further grip.
But those pretentions were so nearly undone right on half time. Terriers skipper Frank Sinclair got in behind the O's down the right and crossed low for Schofield. Morris blocked his effort at the near post and the ball fell for Kamara, whose shot was stopped on the line by Tamika Mkandawire.
Orient were good value for their interval lead and it was the visitors who created the first chance of the second period. Gray was too hot for Sinclar to handle, and his probing run down the left ended with the striker crossing low into the box. The ball fell for Boyd, who passed back for Terry to send in a low shot that Glennon gathered down low.
Midway through the second period, Huddersfield boss Andy Ritchie introduced new loan signing Phil Jevons from the bench in a bid to change the flow of the game.
Jevons' first involvement was to send an overhead kick wide of the mark with 19 minutes left on the clock and four minutes later, he really should have equalised.
Sinclair's diagonal ball from the right back area cut the entire O's defence out, and although Jevons controlled well, he could only stab wide of the near post.
That chance seemed to breathe new life into Town's efforts, and after Holdsworth drilled wide from the edge of the box, Kamara weaved a path past Daniels before laying off for Beckett, whose low shot was heroically blocked by Mkandawire.
Jevons also hooked a volley over the top, but the O's held out for a well-deserved fifth away win of the season.
