Ling - It's Been An Above-Average Season
FOR Orient manager Martin Ling, Saturday's 3-1 victory over Bristol Rovers was the perfect way to end the season.
The O's managed to shake off a seven-match winless run ahead of the summer and Ling says that will be an excellent confidence boost.
"By winning today, we've put all the talk of going into the summer on an eight-match winless run to bed," he said.
"We've got 60 points, we've finished 14th and it has been an above-average season.
"Winning today does give us a boost ahead of the summer, because we won't go into the start of next season with everyone saying we haven't won for five months."
Ling was happy with the way Orient responded to a spell of Rovers domination before half-time, especially given the knocks his side had taken during that time.
He continued: "We got the goal early on and I think we played quite well during that period. But then we took our foot off the pedal and they were the better side towards the end of the first half.
"The dressing room was a bit like a war zone at half time - Wayne Gray had quite a nasty knee injury, Sam Oji didn't really know where he was and Aiden Palmer had a little bit of pain in his chest.
"The doctors were working overtime and my head was spinning in terms of substitutions, so to come out and do as well as we did in the second half - with a makeshift back four - was excellent."
The O's boss was also pleased to see three goals hit the back of the opposition net, especially given their lack of firepower in recent times.
He added: "We haven't been productive enough in that area - we only average just over a goal per game, and that's not going to get you challenging at the top of the table.
"In recent times, the problem has been scoring goals rather than stopping them at the other end, so it was pleasing to get three today."
