MARTIN LING is determined to overcome the negative results of Easter with a strong response at Port Vale on Saturday.

Defeats to Carlisle and Cheltenham have left Orient's play-off hopes hanging by a thread, but Ling is urging his side to go for broke as they aim to gatecrash the top six.

He said: "Everyone was obviously disappointed after last weekend's results, but it is down to myself and Dean to lift them and we've done that over the last couple of days of training.

"We've talked about the positives - it's been a decent season and with six games to go we're still in with a shout of making the play-offs.

"We can't afford to dwell on that poor Easter and we're looking for a good reaction at Port Vale.

"If we're going to make the 72 points I feel we need for the play-offs, we need to take 16 from the 18 available to us.

"That means there's very little room for error - we can't afford to lose a game - and we need to go and look to win on Saturday.

"Like us, Port Vale need to win of their remaining games, so it should be open. It will all depend on how we perform on the day, and we'll need to do better than we have done in our last two matches."

An Orient victory on Saturday could relegate Port Vale with five games still to go, but Ling says Orient cannot afford to slip below their best, despite the Valiants' lowly league position.

He added: "We've had periods of games recently where we've done okay, but we need more than that.

"At this moment in time we're playing in patches but we need to stick at it for 90 minutes."
