IT WAS a weekend of surprise results at the top of League One, as none of the top four managed to take all three points.

Swansea City were on the wrong end of a 4-2 scoreline at Northampton Town, who are mounting a late play-off charge.

Poul Hubertz scored twice for the Cobblers, while an Alan Tate own goal plus a Danny Jackman strike meant Jason Scotland's double was little more than a consolation for the Welshmen.

But Doncaster Rovers couldn't take advantage and close the gap to the league leaders, falling to a 1-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Nicky Forster was the Seagulls' goalscorer, knocking home the rebound after his 57th minute penalty was saved by Rovers stopper Neil Sullivan.

Similarly, third-placed Carlisle United missed out on a chance to further their automatic promotion chances, relying on a 86th minute goal from Peter Murphy to rescue a 2-2 draw at Swindon Town.

Nottingham Forest completed the winless quartet as they drew 1-1 at the City Ground against fellow play-off chasers Walsall. On loan frontman Brett Ormerod gave the hosts the lead, but a Kelvin Wilson own goal meant the points were shared.

An injury time goal from Alan McCormack gave Southend United a 2-1 victory at Huddersfield Town, moving them up to fifth spot in the process. Huddersfield's Andy Booth had earlier cancelled out Hal Robson-Kanu's opener.

Tranmere Rovers kept up the pressure on the top six by seeing off ten-man Hartlepool United 3-1. Chris Greenacre, Michael Nelson (own goal) and Shane Sherriff scored Rovers' goals.

Leeds United's promotion hopes were dealt another blow when Luke Rodgers snatched a last gasp leveller for Port Vale in a 3-3 draw. Leeds had led 2-0 through Rui Marques and Dougie Freedman, and they went 3-2 up late on when Freedman scored again, but Rodgers pegged them back at the death.

Reuben Hazell was sent off for Oldham Athletic as they crashed 3-0 at relegation-haunted Luton Town. Ryan Charles, Matthew Spring and Lewis Emanuel were on target for the Hatters.

Steve Brooker's second half strike gave Cheltenham Town a 1-0 westcountry derby victory over Bristol Rovers and helped ease their relegation worries.

Another south west derby ended in a 2-0 victory for AFC Bournemouth over Yeovil Town. Danny Hollands and Sam Vokes scored the goals.

Finally, Crewe Alexandra opened up a four point gap to relegation rivals Gillingham with a 3-0 victory at Priestfield. Tom Pope, Nicky Maynard and Dean Morgan with the all-important goals.
