ORIENT'S 3-1 win over Port Vale saw them leap from third to first in the League One table - leaving Swansea City and Tranmere Rovers in their wake.

Swansea, who were top, had a blank weekend after their match with Hartlepool United was postponed due to the tragic death of Pools' Michael Maidens in a car accident on Friday evening.

Tranmere, meanwhile, were the victims of a late Barry Corr goal as Swindon Town secured a 1-0 win over the Merseysiders to move up to seventh.

Steve Tilson's Southend United were the other main beneficiaries, winning 2-0 at Walsall through goals from Peter (pictured) and Leon Clarke - and the Shrimpers ease up to second in the table, a point behind the O's.

Moving into third are Carlisle United, who heaped yet more awayday misery on managerless Gillingham with a 2-0 win.  The Gills have only netted once on the road all season.

Nottingham Forest were held to a 0-0 draw by Doncaster Rovers in front of 23,108 at the City Ground, but boss Colin Calderwood was content with a point.

EIghth-placed Yeovil Town were denied a West County derby win by a last minute leveller from Bristol Rovers' Steve Elliott.  Matthew Rose had earlier given the Glovers the lead.

Leeds United's plundering of late goals continued on Saturday when Tresor Kandol put his penalty miss against the O's behind him with the only goal against Brighton.  Dennis Wise's team are now just three points outside the play-off places.

Mid-table Northampton Town saw off struggling Cheltenham Town 2-1 at the Sixfields Stadium thanks to goals from Andy Kirk and Ryan Gilligan.

Luton Town were unable to build on last week's demolition of Northampton and went down 2-0 to two Ryan Lowe goals at Crewe Alexandra.

Huddersfield and Oldham shared the points in a cross-Pennine derby at the Galpharm Stadium.  Craig Davies opened the scoring for the visitors, but Huddersfield's Ronnie Wallwork bagged a late equaliser.

Finally, Millwall hauled themselves out of the bottom four with a 2-1 victory over rock-bottom Bournemouth. Jamie O'Hara and Will Hoskins scored the goals.
