LOCSP - Girls' Tournament A Success
12 TEAMS from Newham, Waltham Forest, Tower Hamlets and Hackney took part in the Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme (LOCSP) Girls Inter-Borough tournament at Score last Friday..
With over 100 U13 girls in attendance on the hottest day of the year so far, the tournament was a great success for all involved, even for those who didn't win the silverware on offer.
Christine Jaeggi, George Mitchell School said: "We always know Giles (LOCSP Girls Football Development Officer) puts on a good show so whenever he asks us to come along to something we always make the effort. Even though the girls didn't get through to the final they all like the chance to get out and play at a nice facility - we are all looking forward to the next one."
Eszter Schmaler, PE Teacher at Forest Gate School said: "I wanted to bring the girls to this big tournament to have fun. It is good for them to have some fun, meet some other girls and gain some experience - next time we will definitely win!"
For those associated with The Holy Family Technology College the day was extra special as they were crowned winners, beating Rush Croft 1-0 in the final.
Charlie, 12, who played in midfield for Holy Family said: "We've got too many good players and won every game we played. We all enjoyed ourselves and we are very happy to win."
Mr. Wilbraham, PE Teacher at The Holy Family Technology College said: "Credit must go to Ms. Simpson who organises the girl's football at school. This team have competed in a few competitions together and that experience shone through as we didn't concede a goal and we won every game. The girls are really buoyant and excited now."
Fiolmena, 13, captain of the Holy Family team said: "We've been playing together since Year 7, so we know each very well. The semi-final penalty shoot-out and final were tough games but we managed to keep the defence tight, which was the key.
"We all love playing football and are now all going to try out for Leyton Orient Girls Centre of Excellence."
